I’ve always been writing . . . from that first “self-published” book at age nine, through my angst-ridden teenage poetry years, to stories scribbled in stolen moments while raising children, and through 25 years as a journalist, travel writer, and medical researcher/writer. Of all these incarnations, my most enduring interest was creative nonfiction. I’m currently working on a series of essays exploring identity, belonging, and the ways in which the past and present intersect.
The throughline to all of my writing is curiosity. My interests are eclectic – from culture past and present, to the arts and history, to social and political issues. Diverse as they may be, they all ask a common question: what is the story beneath the surface?
After more than two decades as a freelance writer, my focus has turned to creative nonfiction. My essays have appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, House Beautiful, Adelaide Literary Magazine, Frazzled Lit, and other publications.
